Frequently asked questions
What is XIRR?
XIRR stands for Extended Internal Rate of Return. It is the annualised return of an investment where money went in at irregular times or in irregular amounts — which is exactly what happens with a SIP, a top-up, or a partial withdrawal.
Why is XIRR different from absolute return?
Absolute return only compares what you put in with what you got out, ignoring when each rupee was invested. XIRR accounts for timing: money invested five years ago has been working far longer than money invested last month, so it weighs each cash flow by how long it stayed invested.
What is a good XIRR for a mutual fund?
There is no single correct number, because it depends on the fund category and the period. The useful comparison is against the fund’s own benchmark and its category peers over the same dates, rather than against a fixed target.
Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Read all scheme related documents carefully. Past performance does not guarantee future returns. These figures are estimates shown before tax, and are for information only — not investment advice.
