Your effective annual return

13.95%

Like a fixed deposit paying 13.95% per year, adjusted for when you paid in and when you received the prize money.

20 installments of ₹4,500 (₹90,000 in total), with ₹1,00,000 received in month 20. This assumes a flat monthly installment throughout — it does not model the dividend adjustment some chit schemes apply to non-winning months.

Frequently asked questions

How is chit fund return calculated?

The calculator treats your monthly installments as money going out and your prize money as money coming in on the month you received it, then works out the single annual rate that makes those cash flows balance — the same method used for XIRR.

Why does taking the prize money early cost more?

When you take the prize money early at a discount, you still have to pay the full monthly installment for the remaining months with nothing coming back in return, which is effectively the cost of borrowing early — shown here as an interest rate.
